Activity 4: Evaluating Web Sites
Learning Objective: Evaluate teacher and learner web sites using an evaluation form, and begin a list of valuable URLs for future use
One common complaint about the Internet is the amount of time one can spend looking for useful sites that can be incorporated into classroom curriculum. One objective of this unit is to provide you with a list of valuable sites that you can evaluate on your own. Consider how to best use them in your own classroom with your own unique set of learners.
Anyone can create a Web page and post it on the Internet. Anyone can profess to be an expert in any field and then publish a page giving his or her point of view. Because of this, it is necessary to use critical literacy in evaluating the source and authorship of a site. This is a skill that both teachers and learners need to develop. In this step, you will use an evaluation form to look at and evaluate several web sites. These web sites are for both teachers and learners, and they provide different, but very valuable information.
