What's in a Unit?
ESL/CivicsLink Unit Main Page Teachers begin a unit by reflecting on their background knowledge and experience and by identifying their own questions related to the topic. They engage in a series of activities that invite them to read and respond to texts, build knowledge and skills through interactive tasks, investigate issues through web research, develop lessons and projects and deepen their knowledge through professional development projects. Each unit ends with a final reflection and goal planning for continued learning.

Activities
Activities begin with an introduction that gives teachers the big picture of what they will be learning in that activity. All the learning activities are organized in a series of sub-activities called Steps. Try a sample activity by going to the home page of this website or by clicking here.

Apply What You've Learned
This is an opportunity for teachers to develop instructional plans for their own class using the knowledge and skills they've enhanced as they worked through the unit.

Projects
The projects provide teachers with additional assistance in building their knowledge of the topic. There is a wide variety of projects from writing case studies to creating web pages.

Review and Reflect
Each unit ends with a "review and reflect" page. Here teachers can keep a record of what they liked and didn't like about the unit, how they will use the information they gained from the unit, and what their plans are for continued professional development.
